Shopify stores share a small set of URL and title problems. This check looks at one Shopify URL and names the theme or settings screen when the fix lives there.
How to check a Shopify URL
Paste a product URL, a collection URL, or the homepage. Use the public address, not the admin. The checker follows redirects, so a link that still uses an old path will show the chain.
The Shopify preset adds notes for the duplicate product path and for product schema. You can still run it on a blog article. The extra notes only appear when the URL or the HTML matches those cases.
Titles and meta descriptions in Shopify
Shopify stores the search title and the meta description on the product, the collection, and the page. In the admin that block is often called Search engine listing. If it is empty, Shopify builds a title from the product name and the shop name. That is why so many product results look identical.
Write a title for the product that includes the product name and the one detail a buyer needs. Write a description that says what the product is, in one or two sentences. Do the same for collections. A collection titled only with the shop name wastes the result.
Theme code can also print a title and ignore the listing you wrote. If you change the listing and the checker still shows the old title, the theme is hard-coding it. That is a theme edit, not another pass through the product form.
The duplicate collection product URL
Shopify can serve the same product at /products/your-product and at /collections/your-collection/products/your-product. Those are two URLs for one product. Links inside collection grids often use the longer one. If both return 200 and the canonical is missing or points at the wrong one, Google has to pick.
The usual fix is a canonical on the collection product URL that points at the shorter /products/ URL. Many themes do this already. The checker looks for the pattern and for the canonical. If the canonical is missing, add it in the theme or in an SEO app that you trust with canonicals. Do not add a second app that also writes canonicals.
Product schema and theme basics
Online Store 2.0 themes usually print Product JSON-LD themselves. If you paste a second Product script from an app, you can end up with two offers and two prices. The checker lists the JSON-LD types it found. If Product appears twice, remove the extra one.
The viewport tag should come from the theme. If it is missing, the theme head is incomplete. Fix it in theme.liquid or the equivalent layout, not on a single product. The same is true of a missing H1. The product title should be the H1. A banner that is also an H1 gives you two.
What a Shopify SEO project still has to cover
One URL cannot tell me whether the collection architecture makes sense, whether filters create endless URLs, or whether the blog is a pile of thin posts. Those are site questions. Use this check to clear the product and collection templates. Use a proper Shopify SEO project when the templates are clean and the traffic is still wrong.
What I check after the first URL
I run the product URL, then the same product through a collection link, then one collection, then the homepage. Four checks show me whether the template is consistent. If only one product is wrong, the listing fields on that product are empty. If every product is wrong, the theme or an app is writing the head.
Apps that add SEO tags are useful until a second app does the same job. I look for two canonicals, two titles, or two Product scripts. Keep one writer. Uninstalling an app does not always remove the metafields it left behind, so check the live HTML after you remove it.
Collections that exist only to hold one product, and products that are drafts but still linked, create URLs the checker will score as thin. That is a catalog decision. The free check tells you the URL is thin. It does not tell you which collections to delete.
Blog articles on Shopify use the same title field. A store blog full of supplier copy will pass a technical check and still be a poor page. Read the sentence. If you would not say it to a customer, do not leave it as the title.
Markets and translated shops add another URL per language. This check looks at the URL you paste. It does not build the hreflang map. If you sell in more than one country, fix the duplicate product path on one market first, then repeat the pattern. A wrong canonical on the primary shop will be copied into every market if it lives in the theme.
