What UK searches look like

UK search has a few habits that change the work:

  • Town names matter more than county names. People search "plumber Harrogate", not "plumber North Yorkshire". Service pages should name the towns you cover, backed by reviews or jobs from those towns.
  • "Near me" and Map Pack results dominate trades and clinics. For these businesses, the Google Business Profile often drives more calls than the website.
  • UK and US English both show up. "Optimisation" and "optimization", "colour" and "color". Your pages should use the spelling your customers use. On a UK-only site, that means UK spelling.
  • Many UK brands also sell into Ireland. If yours does, it needs hreflang and separate pricing pages, not one page trying to serve both.
